Swim Update
Ny PR of 1:34/100m
As many of the readers already know I didn’t know freestyle swimming until spring 2025.
Then I learned how to swim at age 38, and my pace was about 3min per 100m.
Previously, I wrote how I went down from 3min per 100m to 1:55/100m.
Last week, I got my ny PR of overage 1:34/100m.
I am not very familiar with RPE and zones in swimming, because I have been doing my swim sessions mostly in easy pace so far. But I think it was more of tempo zone.
It is almost 1:1 effort, meaning equal work and rest time. For me, for now taking as much pause as needed between intervals is not a problem. My goal was not to get HR up and build lactate. Therefore, I took the rest I needed. This explains average HR is low.
Another milestone is hitting 3500m per session. This is the longest session I swam so far. My goal is to go up to 4000m.
What am I missing?
I wish I had a coach who could point out my errors so that I can work on them. (Un)forntunately, filming is not allowed in public pools here in Norway. So, I can’t use online coaching for that. We have to make best out of it.
Another thing is that I have to practice open water swimming more. Summer in Norway is so short, and one doesn’t get too many opportunities to do open water swimming.

Overall, I am very happy about how it has been. It is crazy how fast this development has happened.
Improvements take time.
If we think of compounding effect of training, we should be able to see even faster improvements now.
Stay healthy,
Bek
